Landfills Aucoin & Associates, Inc. was employed by the St. Landry Parish Solid Waste Disposal District’s Commission Members in 1980 to develop a solid waste program for the entire parish of St. Landry. The district was created by the state legislature and has authority to generate funds, collect sales taxes, construct and operate the collection and disposal of solid waste in the parish. Today
the landfill
consists of a 190 acre site with 9 cells complete with roadways
specifically designed for handling large compactors and dozers.
The facility also contains a concrete ramp for special
deposition of white goods (abandoned refrigerators, stoves, deep
freezers, etc.), a tire shedder, a maintenance building with
specialized equipment, parking areas, and an office building.
Landfill leachate (water exposed to solid waste) is
collected and treated onsite within a three cell oxidation pond
prior to discharge into a nearby stream. |
